Police urge tourists to be aware and secure their valuables

LOST PROPERTY ACCUMULATES

If you’ve recently lost your valuables, personal items or other property and think they’re gone for good, don’t despair – they might be waiting for you to come in and claim them at the Port Douglas police station.
Visitors to the Douglas region have been reminded to keep their eye on their valuables, after a large range of lost property was handed in over recent weeks.
Some of the items include:
- car keys for various cars
- house keys
- wallets with limited identification and cash
- numerous bank cards
- other items including rings, guitars, ukulele, sunglasses, hats, and electronic devices.
Senior Constable Maggie Meadows, the station’s Property Officer, said it is her role to sort and dispose of property that comes in.
“Persons wishing to claim an item, will need to provide a version of where and how they lost the items or the description of the items such as colour, make and or how much money to identify them as the owner,” Sen Const Meadows said.
Sen Const Meadows said due to identification, she cannot disclose where the items were located. But people who’ve recently lost property in the area should check at the station, because it might well be there.
“We are also promoting the reporting online through the Queensland Police website for all lost items,” she said. The website address is www.police.qld.gov.au- ‘Report’ tab
To claim an item or items, visit or call the station on (07) 4087 1999, Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm. If Senior Constable Meadows is unavailable, the station’s Administration Officer, Rebecca Warland, will be able to assist you.
