Mossman looking to clinch minor premiership with 13th straight win

The equation is simple for the all-conquering Mossman-Port Douglas Sharks.
Win their round 20 match tomorrow against a determined Mareeba away from home to claim the CDRL minor premiership and have a well-earned break in the first week of the finals.
Or, lose and see close rivals Brothers, on the proviso they beat Atherton enjoy that scenario while the Sharks back up and play finals footy.
But the coach knows that successful run means nothing if they don’t beat Mareeba and then back it up when it counts in finals footy.
“To be honest we haven’t played the best footy, I’d say over the past five or six weeks,” an honest Marama told Newsport.
“I felt in some of our games over the past month we just didn’t click as well as I would have liked, that happens sometimes, as a playing group our attitude has still been great, but our performances haven’t been where I would have liked.
“In saying that, I felt we turned a little corner last week against Innisfail. I thought our effort against them was close to our best performance of the year.
“We want to build upon that type of effort going forward and that starts with Mareeba, who I regard as a very tough and determined team.”
Meantime in AFL Cairns action Port Douglas faces the toughest road trip in the competition tomorrow when they tackle ladder leaders Cairns City Lions at Holloways Beach.
The Crocs secured their finals berth last week after a tough round 18 win over the Bulldogs and will look to head into finals footy next week with a competitive performance against the Lions.
