John Deere’s best came from Mossman
22-year-old mechanic receives top honour
Congratulations are in order for Jaymee Ireland, the 2022 John Deere Agriculture Service Technician of the Year.
She was judged against more than 100 award nominations from Australia and New Zealand and edged out four other regional finalists from around the country to take out the coveted award.
Jaymee was born and bred in Mossman, went to Mossman High and was working towards being an aircraft technician, even getting valuable experience at Cairns Airport, when her Mum and siblings moved to Kangaroo Island in South Australia.
Not much to do for an aircraft mechanic on the island so she began looking at farm machinery maintenance as an alternative.
This led to a job with a John Deere agent and the rest they say, is history. Jaymee lives in Adelaide and works for Emmetts John Deere Dealership at Roseworthy.
Now she’s considered by the company as the best in her field. “I’m stoked” said Jaymee "I think our job is very important, we need to keep our farmers farming, besides I love going out on the farms and working with customers to solve their problems, it sure beats being in our workshop” she said.
Jaymee was given her award by John Deere’s Director Aftermarket and Customer Support Emma Ford who praised her work ethic “She has drive, determination and a real desire to learn new things" she said.
Charlie’s influence
Jaymee was probably always going to work for someone like John Deere and not Qantas because she was introduced into the agricultural scene through her grandfather, Charlie Brischetto, a farm hand initially and then a harvester driver in the sugarcane industry in Mossman for many moons. These days Charlie is in the Kubirri Aged Care Centre, but wife Colleen says he’s as proud as punch about Jaymee’s win.
“Charlie was always a hardworking man and Jaymee would have got that work ethic from him, also, Charlie could pull a whole harvester to bits, service it and put it all back together again”she said. So no guesses as to where Jaymee got her passion for agricultural equipment. Colleen, who runs CMB Transfers in Mossman, is one proud Grandmother.
“She went away when she was around fifteen years of age and to see what she’s achieved in around seven years is amazing” said Colleen. Jaymee has three sisters and a brother and was recently married. Now she has the world at her feet. Jaymee you really are an inspiration for all young people in the Douglas Shire wanting to enter the mechanical and agricultural industry.
