Breathing fire!

Like their mythical namesake the Douglas United Football Club have conquered again this season taking their third consecutive Far North Division 1 League Title.

The Dragons now travel to Townsville to contest the annual clash with the winners of the Townsville league in the Crad Evans Shield.

The squad this season has shown their character even with their backs against the wall taking on challenges with injuries seeing the team at one point reduced to a third of its size.

Off the back of this casualty ward toll came losses midway through the campaign and putting the quest for back-to-back premierships in doubt.

The call was made to the Dragons seconds who stepped up to fill these gaps providing much needed depth to put their campaign back on track.

This commitment saw three wins against top four opponents to secure the league title.
Club President Darren Case was jubilant when speaking about the squad and this great achievement.

“It’s a great achievement for the boys,” Mr Case said.

“I’m super proud of the players and was confident we could bounce back from a couple of poor performances, and they have done that.”

The Douglas United FC is growing with junior numbers growing fast and the seniors now with two Men’s Teams and a Ladies Team.

“Without the huge support of our sponsors the club wouldn’t be able to keep growing,” said the Club President.

This Friday the 26th is the last game of the season before finals and there are two games being played at the Port Douglas Sporting Complex.

The Douglas United FC Ladies take on the South Side Comets at 6:30pm with the Douglas United FC - Dragons Div1 hosting Atherton at 8:30pm in the two great clashes.

Full bar and catering at the field provided with no byo.
