Community groups to benefit from generosity

GOLF DAY

ONE of the most anticipated and community minded events on Port Douglas’ annual calendar has again been held with six charity groups and clubs to benefit from the amazing generosity of local businesses, kind individuals and the Salsa Sorensen Association.
The Salsa Sorensen golf day is used as a key fundraising opportunity and to present worthy local groups cheques of up to $3000.
Interested community groups must apply and meet a particular criteria and if selected then use the funds to complete a specific project or make a timely purchase.
“We are delighted to be able to contribute to these great community groups and couldn’t do it without the support of our amazing local businesses and individuals who support us each year,” Salsa Sorensen Association spokesperson Jess Uhlig said.
“A special thanks to all the players and the Palmer Sea Reef Golf Club for another brilliant day.”
In the day’s golf action Julian Castiglioni, Gus Peterson, David Scottsmith and Darren Thomson claimed the 14th Brian Sorensen Cup and Stewart Booth took the Rob Palethorpe Memorial award for nearest the pin.
The mouth-watering $20,000 on offer for a hole in one remains safe for another year with no keen participants able to claim the much sought-after prize.
