Warm-hearted atmosphere at first Chatty Café

Community
The very first meeting of the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre’s ‘Chatty Cafe’ took place this morning at the Tin Shed.
With a warm and friendly welcome from Sharon, a Community Development Worker, at the entrance of the Tin Shed, the atmosphere was instantly relaxed and sociable.
The sudden heavy rainfall didn’t stop people from attending the first edition of the new initiative. The coffee was hot, the doughnuts served and the comfy chairs put around in a circle were quickly filled.
Anecdotes were shared and conversations diverged from the latest musical at the Clink theatre Priscilla, to book clubs and daily life activities.
The Chatty Café was initiated to bring people together who do not have a network. It can assist people who may be struggling to find people to talk to, serve as a support system and an opportunity to share experiences.
