Spiegeltent opening weekend features world class headliners
Port Douglas Carnivale
The Wonderland Spiegeltent returns to Port Douglas with a special extended season in tropical paradise, spread out over three huge weekends. Opening May 6 to 22 May with a full program of cabaret, comedy, circus, music and more.
Over 10 days, the 1930s nostalgic wooden mirrored travelling European circus tent will play a key feature of the Port Douglas Carnivale, hosting a spectacular program of live entertainment including circus, cabaret, comedy, burlesque, music and family shows.
Melissa Head, director of Wonderland Spiegeltent, said she is proud to present such a great calibre of Australia’s top entertainers.
“We are beyond excited to return to the Port Douglas Carnivale lineup,” she said. “This season we have the biggest line up yet and am so excited to share this line up with Port Douglas. A tropical paradise such as Port Douglas demands the best.
“We always ensure we have something for everyone, to suit all ages, tastes and something new for returning patrons. This season is no different with a mix of cabaret, circus, music, comedy and something for the families and children.”
Friday 6 May
Comedian Akmal will be opening the Spiegeltent on May 6 with a best of show, bringing comedic gold selected from the previous 25 years.
Hailing from Egypt three decades ago, Akmal is one of Australia’s most respected successful and in demand comics.
He displays an incredible ability to deal with hot topics in a hilarious and non-offensive way – a comedic look at modern day life in Australia. From the brilliant performances on Thank God You’re Here to some of the world’s biggest comedy festivals, Akmal is a marvellous performer guaranteed to have you in stitches.
Saturday 7 May
“Saturday the 7th of May is huge with Karen from Finance and Kate Ceberano,” Ms Head said.
Drag queen Karen From Finance presents her debut one woman show Out of Office which features all of her trademark high-camp and hilarious mashups, plus all the tomfoolery you can poke a presentation pointer at.
Karen From Finance is an award-winning drag performer who recently placed as one of the Top 4 finalists in the reality-TV hit show RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under.
Out of Office was awarded both the Comedy Award and The West Australian Critic's Choice Award at Perth's Fringe World Festival in January 2020, alongside a glowing 4-star review in The West Australian and multiple sold-out audiences.
Kate Ceberano is the most diverse and creative tour-de-force, possessing one of the great voices of her generation. She will be playing all the hits and songs from latest ARIA top 5 album Sweet Inspiration.
Fronting pop funk band I’m Talking, Kate notched up five consecutive hit singles and a Platinum debut album ‘Bear Witness’ (The 100 Best Australian Albums). In 1986 Kate won Most Popular Female Artist at the Countdown Awards.
