Easter Break

Queensland Police have reminded motorists to drive safely and to conditions during the Easter holidays period.

Queensland Police have issued a timely reminder to Far North drivers including those across the Douglas Shire to drive responsibly throughout the school holidays and busy easter period.

It comes as Police launched Operation Uniform Easter and publicly shared footage of drivers acting carelessly behind the wheel including a caravan driver that recklessly merged and cut off another driver in dangerous fashion.

Just 12 months ago six people died on Queensland roads during the Easter long weekend.

“We know everyone is eager to get to their holiday destinations but it’s important to ensure everyone is driving to the conditions and avoiding getting tired,” Police Assistant Commissioner Ben Marcus told Newsport.

“There will be increased traffic on our roads over the school and Easter periods.

“Travelling can mean driving on unfamiliar roads and through a variety of environments and weather. Day or night, ensure you drive to the conditions.”

Do the right thing

Local Police echoed the Commissioner’s sentiments.

“It’s extremely important local drivers across the Douglas shire drive safely and responsibly during this holiday and Easter period,” Douglas Police senior constable Adam Frew reiterated.

“It’s crucial to drive safely every time you get behind the wheel, but even more so during holiday periods when there are more cars on the road.

“We’re reminding everyone to please do the right thing over the holiday period.”
