Netball season starting to heat up

New Season
The opening pass of the local netball season is getting closer with the preseason nearly done, ahead of the official start after Easter.
Those looking for some extra fitness, fun, or a bit of socialising are encouraged to get involved with Mossman/Douglas netball.
“I really encourage anyone who wants to make new friends and have some fun to consider having a game,” local netball president Sharon Beachey told Newsport from her busy Mossman café.
“We are always wanting and needing more players to join and fill teams, games will be played on Tuesdays.
Douglas netball offers many different age groups and divisions for players that wish to have a game.
These include Net Set Go for under-8s to 12s, under-12s-15s and Intermediates who play seniors and division two and division one.
Committee members wanted
Douglas Netball Association held its annual general meeting just a few days ago in which president, vice president, registrar, treasurer, secretary and a range of other roles were open and hoping to be filled.
“A strong committee is integral in running a successful season,” a Ms Beachey said.
“Without a committee local sport cannot function.”
There are plenty of great things to look forward to this season.
The annual primary school gala featuring schools from across the region was recently held at Douglas Sporting Complex. Players took part in netball, AFL and rugby union activities.
A highlight of last year’s calendar, the reconciliation carnival, will return this June with interested players encouraged to nominate mixed teams of seven to contest the round robin playoff competition.
