Bodies In Motion Dance School student Olivia Ward finished number one in the national Highland Dance Competition “Champion of Champions” in Tasmania beginning this month.
The dance competition is the largest Highland Competition in Australia and attracts more than 800 competitors across all ages and levels.
Olivia entered in a total of 9 dances over 2 days. She walked away with two 6th places, a 7th place and to top it off 1st place in the Trophy Highland Fling. Making her the national champion for 10-year old beginner highland dancers in this category.
Principal Saskia Turner said that the entire Bodies in Motion family are all so proud of Olivia. “Prior to this competition, Olivia had only ever competed 3 times before, all locally in Cairns and Townsville”, Ms Turner said.
“It takes a lot of courage to travel interstate to compete at a big event like that. It is an absolute testament to Olivia’s hard work and also the fanatic training from our wonderful Highland Teacher, Miss Sharlene.”
Olivia herself said she was super happy with the results. The 10-year old started Highland dancing when she was 8 years old and said she loves everything about it. “I love the competitions, my dance friends and meeting new friends during competitions.”
