Local artist Bobby Maguire releases brand new song

New single release
Cairns singer-songwriter Bobby Maguire is back with his new single ‘Taken My Place’ in which he blends dark passion, thick bass and soaring vocals.
Despite setbacks due to the pandemic, Bobby Maguire and his band are hitting the stage again armed with a new arsenal of songs.
After his previous singles ‘Exoskeleton’ in 2020 and ‘Vigilante’ in 2021, Bobby has now returned with his latest 2022 single 'Taken My Place', an enigmatic indie rock track.
Newsport had a chat with Bobby and asked him about the inspiration behind the new song.
“The song was initially inspired when my brother Jayden and I were playing with his gel blaster gun and the reload action made a rhythmic sound which sounded interesting because of its consistency,” he explained.
“I took that rhythm and turned it into a drumbeat, I then wrote a bassline and the rest of the song around that in about a night.
“Lyrically the song is really dark and speaks about possession, rage and desperation which contrasts with the uplifting chorus. It is inspired by artists like The Cure and U2 and is a constant push and pull between day and night.”
Locally produced
‘Taken My Place’ was created entirely in Cairns produced by Kris Hutchinson at The Studio Hutch featuring local artists Naoki Kimpara (Drums) and Katie Richards (Backing Vocals) with the music video made by Skye Simpson and Bobby himself.
Bobby has great affinity with this area, having grown up in Cairns, he then moved to Melbourne to complete a Bachelor Degree of Music before returning home to the Far North.
“I love Cairns and the surrounding areas,” he said. “This is the best place in the world. I wanted to bring back what I had learned and start performing in the place that I love for the people I love.”
Upcoming shows
Bobby and his band have been in the rehearsal studio working on a brand new live show full of new tracks and will be performing 'Taken My Place' for the first time on April 30 at Elixir Bar.
“We also have a great show coming up at the Tanks Art Centre on May 6 with the full band where we will be showcasing brand new songs as well as giving audiences a sneak peak at unreleased works.”
