Leichhardt candidates press claims for position

Election candidates
Newsport readers go to the polls next month to determine who’ll lead the country after May 21st.
Locally there are a number of candidates vying for the seat of Leichhardt.
Here a number of those candidates and some of their key policies and priorities.
Geena Court – One Nation party
Cairns businesswoman of the year in 2006 and real estate worker Geena Court will represent the One Nation party in the upcoming elections.
Ms Court’s key policies include fighting against any increase to the GST and making sure foreign owned multinationals that operate here in Australia pay the proper amount of tax.
Ms Court was busy at Rusty’s markets on Saturday speaking with the public about One Nation’s policies.
Ms Court is third from the bottom on the ballot paper.
Daniel Hannagan – United Australia party
Born and bred in Cairns and father to three boys Mr Hannigan is renowned for his community involvement.
United’s key policies include a 15% on export license on the export of Australian ore, no more than 3% interest on home loans and a 20% concession incentive for people that live more than 200km from a capital city.
The United Australia Party also has a priority to abolish and forgive student debt.
Mr Hannagan recently attend the United Party’s campaign launch in Coolum.
Susanne Bayly – Animal Justice Party
A passionate animal rights activist Ms Bayly has an interesting array of intended policies and priorities.
Through the AJC party Ms Bayly believes by taking care of animals and nature it’s ensuring a future for all to be free and healthy.
A focus on taking steps to prevent future pandemics is also another priority for this party.
Phillip Musumeci - Greens
A familiar face across FNQ Mr Musumeci recently revealed the Greens wish to properly tax billionaires to support regional universities as part of their national plan for free health and education.
The Greens also want to create a fast transition to 100% renewables to assist local manufacturers move away from coal and gas to drive new sectors.
