WHEN the Crocs and Cutters face off this afternoon in their Good Friday showdown there’s one player who’ll take his place for the home side that has seen and done it all in local footy.

Afterall, it’s not every day you win five straight premierships, but for 30-year-old Crocs captain Kye Chapple that’s exactly what he’s achieved over the years with the perennial AFL Cairns juggernaut.

So often a prime target up front the Horsham native is ready yet again to tackle an old foe.

“It’s obviously a big game, we’ve shared a good rivalry with the Cutters, particularly over the past few years, so no doubt it will be a difficult match,” Chapple told Newsport from his adopted hometown.

“From all reports they’ve recruited well, so there’s no better time to battle it out than on a good Friday afternoon.

“I’ve heard a lot of Port Douglas will be closed and the footy ground will be the place to be on the day.”

So how exactly have the Crocs experienced Melbourne Storm type sustained success over the past six to eight years?

“I think we’ve been fortunate to have a core group of eight-10 players at the club over a long period which has proved pivotal and then you add (coach) “Coops” and it’s a been great mix,” he said.

“It’s been a dream come true to play with this club and to win as many premierships as we have.

“You hear of clubs winning back-to-back competitions when you’re younger and you always dream of emulating that type of success.

“We are all great friends, we stick together, and we enjoy a tight brothership.”

Today’s contest gets underway from 2pm at Port Douglas sports complex.

Live entertainment will follow the much-anticipated contest.
