The Port Douglas Crocs will tackle Central Trinity Bulldogs full of confidence after humbling a key rival in a much-anticipated Good Friday Showdown.

Heading into the contest slight underdogs on their home deck the Crocs methodically dismantled South Cairns Cutters in the wet to claim a 14-7-91 to 6-8-44 win.

The Crocs held a 37-point advantage into the break and continued the rot afterwards to eventually claim a classy and clinical 37-point victory.

“I thought our skills were really impressive in the wet,” Crocs captain Kye Chapple told Newsport.

“I thought we were able to play smart footy and kick accurately and in the end that proved really important for us.”

Earlier, the Crocs jumped to a solid 20-point quarter time lead, but it was the second term where the home side established the platform for their impressive win.

In wet and slippery conditions the Crocs thwarted a number of attacking raids by the visitors to maintain a 38-13 buffer midway through the second quarter.

After winning the arm wrestle in that term the Crocs gained crucial momentum and were able to head into the half in a strong position.

“That second quarter was really crucial,” Chapple explained.

“It was a real arm wrestle and it was important that we absorbed their pressure and then converted our own opportunities.”

From there, Port Douglas got the job done in front of a passionate and sizeable home crowd.

Kye Chapple with six and Chris Colombo with three were the multiple goal scorers for the home side.

Port Douglas heads to Cairns’ Beaches on Saturday to tackle Centrals at Crathern Park from 2.30pm.

“The Bulldogs are another team that seems to have recruited well in the pre-season so we will have to put in another solid performance in that match,” Chapple said.
