Candidate to focus on skill shortages

Policy promises
Douglas Shire business owners can look forward to an increase in qualified hospitality workers and other timely benefits if Labor gets the numbers in the upcoming federal election on May 21.
Speaking exclusively to Newsport from Cape York, during a whistlestop tour to that part of her would-be electorate Labor candidate for Leichhardt Elida Faith had a timely message for those that run businesses across the region.
"I've been talking to people from Cape York all the way down to Cairns and what they've been telling me is overwhelmingly they are sick and tired of the mistakes of the LNP Government,” Ms Faith told Newsport.
"The mistakes and failures of Scott Morrison have meant the people of Far North Queensland have been left behind.
"Being a tourist destination, I know Port Douglas has been hit hard by the pandemic and the Government’s bungled response.
“The Morrison Government’s failure to invest in skills has meant tourist towns are really struggling with securing workers. This is why Labor’s plan to deliver fee-free TAFE places is exactly the news we need in Far North Queensland.”
Having lost to long serving member Warren Entsch in the 2019 election Ms Faith also unveiled other key policies Labor will implement if it gets the nod late next month.
“The cost of living has skyrocketed not just for those in Cairns, but Douglas and right across the Leichhardt electorate,” Ms Faith explained.
"Only Anthony Albanese has a plan to ease cost of living pressures by reducing power bills, strengthening Medicare and making childcare cheaper so families can get back to secure, well paid jobs that Labor will create."
