Budding beach stars to show talent

New Nippers Season
The region’s budding young water heroes will put their beach skills to the test with a range of events over the next month hailing the beginning of the new junior nipper season.
The annual surf club sign on day will take place at Mossman pool on April 24 from 9-11am with other events to follow throughout the year.
“We have about four surf carnivals a year, (including) one that we host here at Port Douglas’s four-mile Beach,” junior nippers spokesperson Sam Sampson told Newsport.
“We also hold surf rescue competitions that are held in the pool, while there are state championships that some of our members are lucky to be involved in.
“Not to mention we have our weekly trainings down on the beach every Wednesday and Saturday while the Nippers program (is on) every Sunday.
“We encourage anyone with children that want to get involved and give things a go to contact us, as usual all children are welcome.
“Being involved in Nippers builds character and improves confidence.”
