Fairmont development

Last updated:

Douglas Shire Council voted unanimously against the Fairmont development application at Tuesday's Ordinary Council Meeting.

This development has been a long running saga that has reached a crescendo in the last week with developer Paul Chiodo stating Douglas Shire Council is "closed for business".

Council has hit back by supporting the town planners' recommendations and highlighting 18 points of non-compliance within the Planning Scheme. Mayor Michael Kerr summed it up at the council meeting stating that the development is "currently too far outside requirements of the Planning Scheme and community expectations."

Now we want to hear from you, the community. Have your say by voting in our Poll below and leaving a comment at the bottom (Comment guidelines are strictly enforced)

You can read the report from the town planners including the 18 points of non-compliance (starting on page 2 of the PDF) by going to Douglas Shire Council's website, expanding the 28th September meeting and clicking item 5.2 (Material Change Of Use For Resort Complex At 71-85 Port Douglas Rd Port Douglas-compressed).
