The flamboyant former Mayor of Geelong, Darryn Lyons, is now a permanent fixture in Port Douglas after the opening of his second art gallery at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort.

Lyons now has two locations in Port Douglas after opening a gallery on Wharf Street earlier this year.

The gallery opening on Thursday evening saw around 30 invited guests treated to the news that Lyons is planning to work with the Sheraton on an art walk for the hotel.

Already many artworks are hanging in the famous hotel and Lyons said he’s excited to work with the Sheraton on this new project.

Some of the pieces available for purchase include a 'Million Dollar Briefcase' and a famous framed photo of 'England's Rose' the late Princess Diana.

The art walk will consist of paintings and photos which will be displayed in different parts of the hotel with an explanation of each piece.

The gallery is now open to the public.
