Grand final fever hit the Douglas netball courts last week as the top teams battled it out for end of season honours.

In Division One the Cougars proved too strong for the Crocs in an intense nail biter of a game.

The hard-hitting match saw the two top teams fiercely battle it out right to the end, both within touching distance of the flag the entire game.

The Crocs came out strong taking the lead early with some impressive netball plays and were up by five points at the first break.

However, by the second quarter, the Cougars had begun to find the form that saw them end the season at the top of the ladder, thanks to some strong defence from Nichelle Pitt and Simone Pringle and impressive shooting from Nikkaya Williams and Cassandra Cairns.

By halftime the Cougars had clawed their way back to trail by just three points and in the third quarter, they took the lead.

The Crocs weren’t going to go down without a fight, however, and kept the score on a knifes edge right until the end.

The Cougars were able to hold on to take out the 2021 Premiership 35 – 31.

The division One player of the grand final was Nikkaya Williams from Cougars.

The Division One Best and Fairest of 2021 was awarded at the DNA presentation night on Saturday and went to Karlie Brady (Cougars) and Kristie Hynes (Crocs).

Player’s Choice for the season went to Kira Howard (Sharks) and Most Improved was awarded to Jordie Caroll (Drifters).

Division Two

In the Division Two Grand Final, the top of the table Magpies took on second-placed Poison in another impressive match.

Both these young teams came out firing, displaying their strong, fast-paced netball skills.

This was another very tight match and for the first half, the score was neck and neck before the Magpies took off in the third term.

Poison didn’t go down without a fight, however, keeping their noses in the game right till the final whistle.

However, in the end, it was the Magpies night, some sensational shooting from Ella Cairns, Georgia Crimmins, and Ebony Schonenberger helped seal the victory along with notable play in the centre court and defensive end by the Magpies.

The Magpies secured the 2021 premiership 42 – 24.

The Division Two player of the grand final was Lani Dickson from Magpies.

The Division Two Best and Fairest of 2021 went to Jaymi Burcombe (Rattle), Player’s Choice for the season went to Kaijah O’Sullivan (Rattle), and Most Improved was awarded to Eliza Kuik (Poison).
