8:30pm Thursday evening both lanes have been reopened and traffic is now moving freely.

Earlier:

The highway has been partly reopened with traffic slowly moving past the scene one direction at a time. Delays still expected.

According to Queensland Ambulance Service, three people have been taken to Mossman Hospital, one person in a critical condition and two in stable conditions.

Previously today...


The Captain Cook Highway is currently closed between Port Douglas and Mossman after a serious vehicle collision.

Emergency crews are currently on the scene and traffic is closed in both directions with no sign of opening quickly at this stage.


Paul Makin from FAB FM was on the scene, and said the accident is around three kilometres north of the Port Douglas turnoff on the highway and involved a truck and a car, in what appears to be a head-on collision.
