Chris Hemsworth

Last updated:

A country town in Central West NSW made international headlines this week after they managed to secure Hollywood dreamboat, Chris Hemsworth, to be the town’s official ambassador.

Cowra Shire has a population of around 10,000 people and is roughly four hours drive west of Sydney.

After years of drought and then the pandemic, tourism has suffered in the region so the town launched a campaign to ‘Get Chris to Cowra’.

According to a story from the ABC this week, the town plans to build a 40-ft tall statue of Hemsworth named, The Big Chris.

“It would be 40 metres tall and 10 metres wide and the campaign's promotional video quips that if he agreed to come it would sport a beard like spun canola,” Cowra Tourism manager Glenn Daley told ABC.

Hemsworth used social media to accept the town’s offer, promising to visit next year after he's finished filming his next movie.

With ‘The Big Chris’ making headlines around the world, is it time that Douglas Shire looked at something like this? Who should be our Shire’s ambassador?

Have your say in our poll below and then let us know who you think it should be!
