Mossman bowls club delivers vaccination message

Covid-19 pandemic

Inspired by Qantas and Virgin’s rewards programs, the Mossman Bowls Club has embarked on a novel initiative by rewarding its members with 1000 Club Points ($10) who have been fully vaccinated for Covid-19 to help protect some of the most vulnerable people in the local community.
In explaining the concept, the club’s Secretary/Manager, Kevin Rynne, said members accumulate points on each purchase they make within the club, when they swipe their membership card.
“When they have enough points, they can be redeemed at any time for meals or drinks. The award of 1000 points for their double vax is equivalent to $10 for them to spend at their leisure within the club,” he said.
Rynne said he was aware of the offers from Qantas and Virgin to reward their loyalty card members with points and discounts on flights and thought it was a great incentive.
“I took one of the full page newspaper ads promoting this offer to the last board meeting and proposed that we offer our double vaxed members a similar reward.
“To the credit of the board the proposal was unanimously adopted and approved. The offer is open until 31 March 2022,” said Rynne.
Positive reaction
Rynne recognises by pushing vaccination rates, it is a step closer in safeguarding the community and helping the local businesses in the region bounce back from some really testing times.
“The reaction from the membership has been overwhelmingly positive. It has been extremely pleasing to see so many members coming forward with their digital or printed certificates. Not one negative comment has been received.”
The Club recently hosted the State Member for Cook, Cynthia Lui, who complimented the rewards program and the club’s efforts for encouraging better vaccination rates in the community.
The club was awarded Best Club in FNQ for 2013 at Clubs Queensland Awards for Excellence.
