A 63 year old woman is the latest person to be injured while walking on Flagstaff Hill.

The 1.5km trail provides a link between Four Mile Beach and Rex Smeal Park in Port Douglas.

The Port Douglas local was walking the track with two friends this morning when a male runner came past the group, forcing the woman to step to the side suddenly and in doing so she twisted her ankle on loose stones and leaves.

The friends transported her to Mossman Hospital where she was treated for a broken bone in her foot. She will spend the next six weeks wearing a moon boot while the bone heals.

She told Newsport “Someone needs to clean up the loose material from time to time and runners need to be more considerate of walkers on the trail who can’t hear them till the last minute.”

Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr says, “it should be remembered that the trail is for everyone and runners do not have the right of way.”

The track does have short steep hill sections, steps and uneven ground.

The popular walking trail is recommended for people with some walking experience.
