Emergency Services called to chemical spill at Crystalbrook Marina
Emergency Services Incident
Emergency services have responded to a low-grade chemical spill at Crystalbrook Marina around 12:30pm at the Wharf Street end between Choo Choos and Hemingways.
The incident attracted several departments as is normal for any chemical spill however Police said the incident was on the lower end of the danger spectrum and the large number of emergency vehicles present was simply due to precautions being taken.
Port Douglas Police Sergeant Damien Meadows said, “it was a cleaning agent from a storeroom inside the marina building, and emergency services ran it strictly by the book to ensure that everyone was safe until we knew exactly what occurred.”
“Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were called to contain the spill as rapidly as possible, which they did,” Sgt Meadows said.
“Queensland Ambulance Service also came and checked everyone that had been in proximity to the incident as a precaution, with nobody requiring any serious treatment.”
There are still a number of emergency vehicles on location however Sgt Meadows said this was just to continue the cleanup.
“QFES absorbed the spill very rapidly and they are continuing to clean thoroughly to ensure that the area is same from any contaminants.
Bars and restaurants in the marina are still open.
