Securing future of the visitor economy

An initiative focusing on the future of Australia’s visitor economy has presented tourism operators, industry bodies, among others, to have their say on securing the long-term future of the industry.
Titled Reimagining the Visitor Economy, it has an expert panel who will advise industry and governments on the future of Australia’s visitor economy.
Former Federal Tourism Minister, Martin Ferguson, has been appointed to lead the Reimagining the Visitor Economy Expert Panel over the next six months.
The panel comprises: Martin Ferguson (chair) – Chair of Tourism Accommodation Australia and Clare Valley Wine & Grape Association; Ms Leanne Coddington – Chief Executive Officer, Tourism and Events Queensland; Ms Karyn Kent – Chief Executive, StudyAdelaide; Ms Kate Lamont AM – owner, Lamont’s Wine and Food and Mr Juan Walker – owner and operator, Walkabout Cultural Adventures.
The panel will provide advice on the visitor economy, which encompasses domestic and international tourism, including international students, business and leisure travellers, business and major events and short-term overseas workers, as well as associated industries such as hospitality, aviation and accommodation.
Ferguson welcomed the opportunity to lead this important work.
“We have an opportunity to imagine a new future for the sector which is more resilient, sustainable and competitive,” he said.
The Expert Panel seeks your input to identify what the visitor economy needs in order to be resilient, competitive, sustainable and profitable over the next ten years. The Panel has released a Discussion Paper to assist stakeholders to frame their submissions.
You can lodge a short written submission, providing insights and solutions to address the challenges facing the visitor economy, until 5pm, Friday 11 June.
