UPDATE (Monday):

Police are appealing for witnesses to a dangerous car surfing incident on Macrossan Street on Saturday night which left an 18-year-old Manoora man and a 23-year-old Mareeba man injured.

Police allege at around 7.05pm a car was travelling down Macrossan Street with two male passengers travelling on top of the sedan. Both fell off the vehicle as it navigated a turn into Wharf Street.

Police arrested the driver, also a 23-year-old Mareeba man and charged him with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, driving a motor vehicle whilst over the middle alcohol limit but not over the high alcohol limit, unlicensed and disqualified driving, driver fail to remain at the scene, driving an unregistered vehicle and possession of a drug utensil.

He is due to appear in the Mossman Magistrates Court on June 29.

Anyone with information or footage of the incident is urged to contact police.

EARLIER (Sunday):

A disqualified drink-driver is facing a string of charges after allegedly letting two mates surf on the roof and boot of his car, leaving them seriously hurt, Queensland police say.

Police allege the man was over the limit, banned from driving and behind the wheel of an unregistered car when he let his friends go car surfing down the main street of Port Douglas on Saturday night just after 7:00pm.

As the vehicle approached the Wharf Street intersection, two men who were on the roof and boot were flung off, leaving them seriously hurt.

Police allege the 23-year-old driver kept going but a few minutes later returned to check on his friends and was promptly arrested.

An 18-year-old man suffered head injuries and was rushed to the Cairns hospital. The other car surfer, also aged 23, was taken to the Mossman Hospital with spinal and pelvic injuries.
