Enhance your property portfolio: buy an island

REAL ESTATE

Record prices, $60m in sales, buyers from most states and the availability of five exotic islands, are the success stories emanating from one of the world’s leading real estate companies.
A buoyant Barbara Wolveridge, director of Sotheby's International Realty, Port Douglas, said she was delighted to report they had reached the $60m worth of sales since 1 July and enjoying record prices.
“Over the past nine months buyers have come from all states not just Melbourne and Adelaide which has been the norm.
“We have had a lot of buyers who have just discovered Port Douglas and it has been fantastic dealing with all these new people who are loving our beautiful shores,” she said.
Wolveridge said buyers are pretty astute, despite coming from the big cities. They know what they want and they know how to look up what everything is worth.
She added that she is in the throes of selling five Islands and already there are two prospective buyers on one of the Islands.
The islands are Pumpkin Island (13.8 kilometres off the coast of Yeppoon); Elysian Retreat, The Whitsundays; Fitzroy Island, Cairns; Victor Island, The Whitsundays and Zuna Island Escape (accessible from Thursday Island and Horn Island). Bloomfield Lodge, Cape Tribulation, is also on their books.
“These are exciting times and I am looking forward to a flight to one of the islands. Whoever said real estate was boring, was obviously never in it,” she quipped.
