Local favourite N17 Burger Co. celebrates third anniversary

It’s time to hang up the garlands and blow up the balloons because burger bar N17 in Port Douglas opened its doors three years ago.
Serving delicious and juicy handmade burgers and luscious cocktails, N17 is a favourite go-to spot for both locals and tourists.
Simon MacLeod, owner of N17, has worked hard to improve his menu over the years and to serve his customers the most creative burgers.
“The quality of food is what I’m most proud of,” he said. “What makes our burgers great is that we respect the true flavours of our products and use local ingredients.
“For our most popular burger, the N17 house special, we use 100% Black Angus beef from the tablelands. Another beloved burger by customers is the sriracha pulled beef with blue cheese sauce, also my personal favourite.”
Mr MacLeod said that he wants to create a relaxed and casual kind of vibe. “A place where people can come together, have a laugh and a good time.”
In his urban-style venue, people can sit back and relax while watching a sports game on one of the big tv screens on the walls. The cocktail bar is equipped with a special espresso-martini list on which you can find variations with cookies and cream, white chocolate and hazelnut.
On top of that, N17 is also one of the first businesses to be free of single-use plastic items.
All of their single-use items come from Port Douglas hospitality suppliers and are made out of bamboo and paper take-away bags.
Mr MacLeod said that when he started the business three years ago, plastic items were not an option for him.
“My wife is a skipper on the Great Barrier Reef and every day she comes face to face with the consequences of plastic pollution,” he explains.
“We also went to the turtle rehabilitation centre at Fitzroy Island; I was shocked when I saw what plastic pollution can do to turtles.”
Mr MacLeod is far ahead with banning plastic as from September this year single-use plastic items will be banned in Queensland.
As part of the third anniversary, N17 is hosting an event with Wolf Lane distillery. On Saturday, 10 April Wolf Lane will be taking over the bar showcasing their products and serving some great cocktails and gins all night. Bookings are available for a 6:00pm sitting during dinner service, then it’s a walk-in event until 1:00am.
