Junior hockey breaks new ground

Douglas Hockey has reached new heights as they embark on sending their first junior teams to this year’s Queensland Hockey state championship in Townsville.

The championship is being held over the school holiday period from 4-7 July.

“It is exciting that we are now able to send juniors representing the Douglas Shire to state hockey tournaments. We incorporated October 2018 and now have some quality kids able to compete at this level,” said Greg Mill, Chairman, Douglas Hockey Association Inc.

Mill said an Under-13 boys team for has been entered for Townsville, and they are now looking for Under-13 girls for Gympie.

“The Hockey Queensland Under-13 Girls State Championships is an Under-13 Hockey Championship for players across Queensland to represent their association against players from around the state. Queensland teams are selected which then go on to the Australian National Championships,” said Mill.
