Ladies of the Douglas Shire came together in a celebration of all things women at the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre’s International Women’s Day luncheon on Friday at Salsa Bar & Grill.

In its 24th year, the annual luncheon is a major fundraiser for the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre with money raised going to the Centre’s emergency relief program which provides assistance for people in distress.

There was food, drinks, inspirational speeches, and musical entertainment from the cast of the South Pacific production set to hit the Clink Theatre in June.

Neighbourhood Centre President Julia Leu said the event was a great success.

“It is a wonderful celebration of the women in the Douglas Shire and Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre is really proud to host it,” she said.

“We had really amazing speeches from our guest speakers, Cynthia Lui and Tara Bennett who told us about their journey’s and where they are now in their professional lives.

“This is our main fundraiser for the year and the services it supports are for the most vulnerable in our community. We are really grateful to all our sponsors who continue to support us,” she said
