The Port Douglas Community Hall was buzzing this morning as more than 100 people walked through the doors for the Douglas Business Expo 2021.

Trade booths were set up around the hall with local business owners and key industry and government representatives able to network and exchange ideas for regional business, particularly in the wake of COVOD-19.

The event was hosted by the Douglas Chamber of Commerce and Douglas Shire Council who also arranged for five keynote speakers to address attendees about ways they can best leverage upcoming economic opportunities.

The speakers were Kupa Teao, CEO of Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation, Robert Soyra, Director of Research and Digital, Construction Skills Queensland, Leanne Kruss, Regional Manager, Queensland Agricultural Workforce Network, Nick Trompf, Executive Chairman, Advance Cairns, and Maree Adshead, Queensland Small Business Commissioner.

Chamber President Liz Ross said she was pleased with the turnout and the impressive speeches given by the keynote speakers.

“I am really pleased with the speakers we have had here today. I think each of them has come with their own passion and ideas and there is a linkage between all of them,” she said.

“The networking event also allowed for people to go around and talk to different services individually to find out what is on offer.

“It’s about making people aware of all the facilities that are out there to help small business and link them together.

“From today they will have been able to create contacts and find people who will be able to help with any small business problems.”
