Ladies of the Douglas Shire will gather to celebrate International Women’s Day at the annual Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre’s luncheon on Friday at Salsa Bar and Grill.

The luncheon is a celebration of the strength, courage and diversity of women in the Douglas Shire and for 24 years has been an annual fundraiser for the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre, which forms part of the Port Douglas Community Service Network.

Money raised from the luncheon will go to the Neighbourhood Centre’s emergency relief program which provides assistance for people in distress needing urgent help.

The event has officially sold out, however, if you still want to support the cause, raffle tickets are still available.

Organiser, Shona Barbour, said you don’t have to be at the luncheon to win.

“It is $20 a ticket and the prize is $2000 cash, we have a maximum of 200 tickets being sold so that gives you a 1 in 200 chance to win,” she said.

“You can get tickets from the NikNak Shed in Port Douglas or contact me on 0407674135.”

The official International Women’s Day is on Monday 8 March and is a day when all women are recognised for their achievements, as well as celebrating how far women have come in their struggle for equality, peace and development. It is also an opportunity to unite, network and mobilise for meaningful change.
