UPDATE: 

A local man in his 40s has been pronounced dead after being pulled from the water at the Port Douglas Marina earlier today.

Emergency services were called to the marina at 11:55am on Friday after the man was found in the water near a private boat docked on the pontoon.

Paramedics assessed the patient at the scene; however, he was unable to be resuscitated.

A Port Douglas police spokesperson said the man had fallen into the water.

“No one witnessed him going into the water.

“At this stage, and it is very early in the investigation, it would look like possibly a pre-existing medical condition (caused the fall), unless he has slipped and hit his head.

“There doesn’t appear to be any indication at this stage that is was anything other than that.

“It is very early on in the investigation and there is still a lot of work to do.”

Police don’t believe the man was in the water for a hugely extended period of time with his partner raising the alarm after returning to the boat to find him missing.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Emergency services have responded to an incident that has occurred at the Port Douglas Marina.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said paramedics are on scene.

“A patient is being assessed by paramedics after being pulled from the water at the marina at 11.55am,” the spokesperson said.

A police spokesperson said it is currently an “evolving incident taking place at the marina involving a boat and someone who has slipped into the water.”
