Shovels have broken ground and construction is officially underway on the much-needed relocation and upgrade of the Mossman Fire and Rescue Station.

It was confirmed in last week’s state budget that the government would commit nearly $2 million to support the project that will boost firefighting personnel and the community they service.

Last week Cook MP, Cynyhia Lui and Mark Ryan, Minister for Queensland Fire and Emergency Services visited the site located on Front Street Mossman next to the Woolworths shopping centre.

The Member for Cook Cynthia Lui said the funding allocation of $1.95 million in 2021-22 state budget means that work on this important project can get underway as soon as possible.

“The station is an auxiliary station and has a staffing contingent of 14 which consists of 1 captain, 2 lieutenants and 11 auxiliary firefighters.

“This station upgrade and relocation is not only important for the dedicated firefighters who will work there but for the broader Mossman community and other communities in the Cook electorate.

Tenders for the design and construction work on the new station are open and will close on the 29 June.

The bell will be rung for the new fire and rescue station in the second half of 2021 when completion is expected.
