Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas was closed earlier today after a saltwater crocodile was sighted in the water.
A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokesperson said lifeguards closed the beach at around 9:15am.
“Lifeguards were able to detect the crocodile early using a Surf Life Saving Queensland drone,” the spokesperson said.

“Following the closure, lifeguards continued to monitor the crocodiles’ movements using the drone.”
At 1.30pm after no further sightings, the beach was reopened.
“The incident serves as a timely reminder to always swim at patrolled locations, between the red and yellow flags, where lifeguards are on duty to watch over beachgoers and monitor the water for marine creatures,” the spokesperson said.
