Townsville’s lockdown to be lifted while Brisbane’s is extended

COVID-19

Townsville and much of the southeast will leave lockdown at 6:00pm tonight, however, Brisbane and Morten Bay will remain under stay at home orders for at least another 24 hours.
Queensland recorded five cases in the past 24 hours, two in hotel quarantine and three locally acquired.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said one of the cases is the partner of yesterday’s international airport case.
Of greater concern are two new cases in a mother and daughter from Carindale. At this stage, officials don't have any information on how they're linked to any other cases and an investigation is underway today.
“They have been out quite extensively around Brisbane,” the Premier said.
The lockdown will end at 6:00pm for the LGA of Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Gold Coast, Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley, Somerset and Townsville, including Magnetic and Palm Islands.
Ms Palaszczuk said the Brisbane City Council and Moreton Bay local government areas will remain in lockdown.
“Because our contact tracers need that extra time, we need another 24 hours,” she said.
"Now we will come back early tomorrow morning, once our contact tracers get on top of this and we will look at the case numbers overnight.
"I want to thank everyone for doing the right thing but as you can see, we've just got a situation at the moment that has just come in and we really need to give the people, our contact tracers, the time to do that."
People in those 11 local government areas, will be subject to additional measures for the next 14 days until 5.59pm on Friday 16 July. Residents must carry a mask at all times outside the home and wear them indoors or if social distancing isn’t possible. You must be seated to drink or eat in cafés and restaurants, and businesses and venues must return to the one person per 4m² inside and one person per 2m² outdoors, while smaller venues up to 200m² are allowed one person per 2m² with a maximum of 50 people. Private gatherings are restricted to 30 people, and up to 100 people can attend weddings and funerals. Only 20 people can dance at weddings.
