DAB opens way to explore our perspectives
Art Exhibition
The Douglas Shire’s abundance of artistic creativity will again be on display when the Douglas Arts Studio Gallery (DAB) launch their latest exhibition theme of ‘Perspectives’ at their Mossman location.
The exhibition is from 31 July to 28 August and the gallery is open from 10.00am – 2.00pm Monday to Saturday. DAB is located at 11 Mill Street, Mossman, opposite the library.
Visitors to the gallery will be treated to beautiful, quirky, and thought-provoking artworks – including paintings, glass work, pottery, jewellery, drawings, prints, mosaics, sculptures, and items made with wool and plant fibres – all reflecting a wide range of perspectives on art and life.
“Our urban sketchers have illustrated how we may all be looking at the same building or scene, but we perceive it in very different ways.
“The paintings capture different aspects and perspectives of subjects, from close up to panoramic viewpoints to different angles, sometimes with unexpected colours for familiar items.
“Several of our artists have explored the concept of home, for humans and for wildlife, and how the perspective can shift with a change of position, time or person/animal’s point of view,” said Mandy White, a member of the DAB Gallery Sub-Committee.
Ms White said the artworks represent many worldviews, attitudes, and approaches which provides an ideal opportunity to explore our ‘Perspectives’.
The brainchild of Marjorie Norris in 2002, DAB is a not-for-profit community arts centre which is aimed at teaching, promoting and encouraging the artistic development, appreciation and personal expression of people living in Mossman, Port Douglas and the whole Douglas Shire region, in Far North Queensland.
