Increased rain sees water restrictions lifted across Douglas
WATER RESTRICTIONS
Water restrictions in the Douglas Shire have been lifted after increased rainfall saw the water intake levels rise.
The Shire has been on level one water restrictions since August following very low amounts of rain in 2020.
The current water level intake at Rex Creek is 780mm in comparison to the near 300mm level the intake was at when restrictions were implemented more than four months ago.
A Douglas Shire Council spokesperson said, “the decision to lift level one water restrictions comes with the reliability of the BoM forecast for the next three months giving us the confidence the wet season will deliver reliable rainfall over the period.
“We can now confidently expect 700mm of rain and a median rainfall of 1557mm for January to March.”
Council thanked residents for their cooperation and assistance with water conservation measures and advised residents to be prepared for the wet season by staying connected.
