Police launch search operation for missing bike rider

UPDATE:
The missing 50-year-old man was located safe and well at around 6.15pm Friday night.
He was located by a chartered helicopter approximately 9km from his trail bike.
He was winched to safety and transported to Cairns Base Hospital for treatment for dehydration.
EARLIER:
A search and rescue operation is underway in Kuranda after a man riding his dirt bike failed to return home.
Queensland Police said Andrew Nielson aged 50, is believed to have gone trial bike riding at the Flaggy Creek Trail via Quaid Road on Wednesday, 3 February.
He has not been seen or heard from since.
“Police and family hold concerns for Mr Nielson’s welfare as it has now been two days since he has been seen,” a police spokesperson said.
“Police with the assistance of the Rescue 510 helicopter and State Emergency Services volunteers commenced search operations on Thursday, however, were unable to locate him. Those resources will be joined by additional police on trail bikes and other agencies this morning.”
Mr Nielson is described as Caucasian, 175cm tall with brown hair and hazel eyes. It is believed he is wearing similar clothing as pictured above.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen Mr Nielson or has any information to contact police.
