Mossman ANZ bank closing its doors

Mossman’s ANZ bank on Front Street is closing on 24 February in what will be a significant blow to many loyal customers.
The banking company closed nine branches across Queensland in 2020.
ANZ’s general manager for Queensland, Jackie Auf der Maur, said its customers are not using branches like they used to and we are seeing a 10% reduction in branch transactions each year.
“Our customers prefer the convenience of doing their banking when it suits them and increasingly they are choosing to use our ANZ App and call centre.
“While this clear trend of services moving online is happening across Australia, including services such as Medicare and the Australian Taxation Office, we recognise the transition will be more challenging for some customers.
“We have written to customers to inform them how they can continue to do their banking and we can discuss with them alternative banking methods, including online, telephone and mobile banking.
“Customers who prefer to continue their banking face-to-face can do so at the Port Douglas branch,” said Auf der Maur in her statement.
In a sign-of-the-times statement sent to Mossman customers, ANZ said: “Every day more of our customers are choosing the convenience of doing their banking when and where it suits them.
“Through our digital channels and Contact Centres, you can now manage most of your banking from the comfort of your home, office or while you’re on the move.
“To support our customers’ changing preferences, we’re making some changes to our Far North QLD branch network and as a result, our Mossman branch at 18 Front Street, Mossman will permanently close at 4.00pm on Wednesday 24 February.”
An ANZ spokesperson said although they do not reveal how many employees are affected, every effort is being made to redeploy the staff into other roles.
