The wait is finally over as the highly anticipated K hub opened their doors to Douglas Shire shoppers.

Locals were lined up with bubbling curiosity to be among the first to have a glimpse of what finds were to be discovered inside.

Before the doors flung open delegates were on hand to celebrate the tropical-themed grand opening that included a traditional Welcome to Country ceremony and ribbon cutting by Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr, store manager Brent Beach and Michelle Kirstalya.

Mayor Kerr said it was an honour to be invited to open their new store and cut the official ribbon.

“I’d like to thank Kmart for having the confidence in this region to want to convert the store into one of their new K hub stores. Retaining the old staff and employing some new ones is exactly what we need right now.

“Having a variety store in Port Douglas is an absolute asset to the local community, it was always very well used as a Target store and I am sure the local community will love this new concept store just as much.

“Unit owners benefit by being able to grab new items like irons, kettles and linen locally rather than having to drive to Cairns,” said Mayor Kerr.

Ever since the big red “K” announced its arrival to Port the excitement has been long-awaited with the promise of more choice, bigger assortments and new ranges that are associated with “Australia’s favourite” budget retail brand.

The store may look a tad different from what you’d expect to see at Kmart, however, they have managed to squeeze in a lot of essential favourites that check all the boxes.

K hub Port Douglas store manager Brent Beach said we’ve been part of the Port Douglas community for the past 11 years and we’re so excited to continue our journey with Kmart, one of Australia’s most iconic brands.

“Our K hub store is stocked full of great value, on-trend products that we know our customers are going to absolutely love! It’s the best of the best, Kmart’s most popular products across kids, home and clothing.

“The store will also offer customers unprecedented accessibility to two of our key Kmart Group brands, as the hub will become a collection point for online Target orders.

“Customers will also be welcomed into store with some familiar faces. Seven of our Target team members have joined the K hub team, and we have 13 new team members from the local community with recruitment ongoing.

“Port Douglas is such an iconic beautiful town and we feel very proud to be part of it.”
