Personal Bests smashed at Lake Barrine Bash

Local Sport
The Lake Barrine Bash organised by Masters Swimming Queensland turned out to be the perfect stage to break personal bests. A bunch of Port Douglas and Cairns swimmers, Coached by Irene from Swimfit, enjoyed a beautiful swim at the Tablelands Lake last weekend.
This yearly event, broken up by Covid last year, returned to the event calendar and local swimmers were excited to take on the challenge. In a field of close to a 100 swimmers, the Swimfit Squad came out with great results.
Coach Irene Cats says: ‘It was just awesome to have a local open water swim event on again. It wasn’t hard to convince my swimmers to jump in for a splash. We love training in the pool, but there's something special about taking your skills and fitness to the open water.’
‘There was a choice from 2.5km, 5km or 10km distances, which means there is something for everyone. And at Lake Barrine we don’t have to worry about any marine creatures.’
‘I am so proud of the Swimfitters’ results. Everyone had a great swim, some even with the use race tactics, I couldn’t ask for anything more. For them to finish with a big smile on their face, is all that matters.’
We always welcome new swimmers of all ages and levels to join our Swimfit Group Sessions in Mossman or Palm Cove. For more information visit here.
