Free Christmas lunch to promote community connection

The Port Douglas Community Service Network will be staging a Community Christmas lunch tomorrow, December 16, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Port Douglas Community Hall.
“All community members are welcome to attend, no matter the age or walk-of-life. We are expecting newborns to 90-year-olds to attend,” a Network spokesperson said.
This is a free and inclusive community event which is being run for the first time by Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre Volunteers and Staff.
The aim of the event is to promote community connection and social inclusion at a time of year when many members of our community can feel isolated and far from family.
“We are excited to welcome anyone who would like to enjoy a lovingly home-made feast including roast meats and vegetables, fresh salads, cheese and fruit platters, desserts, cold drinks, tea/coffee, friendly company, and a live local musician too.
“The man in the red suit may be coming along to join in the fun. Children of all ages are absolutely encouraged to attend,” said the spokesperson.
“We are proud to say that 75 per cent of the food has been rescued with the wonderful help of OzHarvest and SecondBite Austraila. The remaining 25 per cent has been sourced from local growers, including wonderful herbs from PD Neighbourhood centre’s community garden.
Vegan, Vegetarian and Gluten free options all available.
