Two locals are still celebrating their good fortune after snapping up original artworks which went under the hammer at an auction held at Hemingway’s Brewery on the Marina yesterday afternoon.

Organised by real estate company Ray White Port Douglas, two iconic Port Douglas locations were up for sale by renowned artist James Fleet, a finalist in the Doug Moran Portrait prize whose work has a global presence.

Proceeds from the auction went to the Little Ray of Giving to the Douglas Shire initiative, which was launched this year by Ray White Port Douglas.

The paintings of St Mary's by the Sea in Port Douglas and a scene at Four Mile Beach went for a low price of $200 each.

Port Douglas resident Maureen Renton took home the St Mary's painting and said she came to the auction especially to buy the work of art and couldn't believe the price it went for when the hammer fell.

A man, who preferred not to be identified, was the successful bidder for the Four Mile Beach scene, which went for $200.
