Local builders wanted to build domestic violence shelter in Mossman

Douglas Shire Council is inviting local builders to lodge a tender submission to build emergency accommodation for victims of domestic violence in Mossman.
The Safe Places initiative is designed to provide accommodation for victims of domestic and family violence during emergencies.
Council has released the design and construction tender to Vendor Panel, contacting local companies to make a bid for the project.
Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr said the project was opportunity for a local company to build a safe place for victims of domestic and family violence.
“Our local community has been working towards securing crisis accommodation in Douglas Shire for the past six years. We are now building this facility and would like to give local companies a chance to be a part of it,” Kerr said.
Douglas Shire has one of the highest rates of domestic violence in the state and currently, victims of domestic and family violence have no local emergency accommodation and must seek shelter elsewhere.
Council has released a tender today to invite local home builders to prepare the final design based on preliminary drawings and construct the facility.
Local companies can register their interest by emailing procurement@douglas.qld.gov.au
A tender will be awarded by October 2021, and the facility constructed by May 2022.
