An investigation is currently underway to determine whether a positive Covid-19 test in Cairns is an historic case or an active and infectious case according to the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Services.

News Ltd is reporting that a childcare centre on the Cairns Northern Beaches has been closed and children sent home.

Queensland Health have yet to confirm any more details.

This news comes after Queensland announced a further 16 cases of Covid-19 today linked to the Delta variant outbreak at Indooroopilly in Brisbane.

This brings the state’s total to 47.
