BREAKING: Captain Cook Highway closed after person hit by truck at Mowbray

Police have diverted traffic down Tresize Road south of the Mowbray bridge after a pedestrian was hit by a truck in a road incident.
According to witnesses, the incident occurred on the straight south of the Mowbray Bridge at approximately 9:50am this morning.
According to one witness, an oak beach resident who was driving by at the time, a southbound truck driver tried to swerve the vehicle but was unable to avoid contact with the pedestrian.
According to Port Douglas police Sergeant Damian Meadows who was on the scene, the injured man is in his mid-late 20s and although he sustained some significant injuries he is in a stable condition.
According to Sergeant Meadows, the man will be airlifted to Cairns Hospital shortly and the highway will reopen soon afterwards.
UPDATED AT 12:20PM
The highway has been reopened in both directions.
