After saying G’day to 37 local legends, the G’day Port Douglas and Daintree series comes to an end by introducing local rural firefighter, Sam Carey-Sage.

In the final video above, Sam talks about life living in the Daintree and why she moved here.

Originally from England, she would often spend time in Australia. Her love for cassowary's kept bringing her back and she eventually bought a block of land in the Daintree Rainforest.

She loves that she can climb waterfalls and go for a swim or mountain bike whenever she likes. The low land prices (when compared with England) is just the last nail in the coffin.

That is a wrap on the G’day Port Douglas & Daintree series which has created a snapshot into the lives of a diverse range of locals who have shared what inspires them to live in this beautiful part of the world.

Series producer, Chris Beckwith, said over the past 37 weeks the team has greatly enjoyed delving into the lives of different locals.

“It’s been great fun talking to different people and seeing people who would not normally be recognised in the community being recognised,” he said.

“It’s been nice to see how everyone has a different point of view and perspective and to see what it is that makes them love living here.

“What stood out to just about everyone in their interviews on why they love living here was the environment, the open spaces, and the rainforest. But many also made comments about the lovely people here and the sense of local community.”

Mr Beckwith said it wasn’t just local stories that inspired him to pick someone to interview but also the many great locations around the Douglas Shire.

“I wanted to highlight the people but also interesting local locations,” he said.
