Roadworks at Mowbray Bridge: Work begins on access to pedestrian crossing

Prepare for road works on the Captain Cook Highway with traffic to be limited to one lane at the Mowbray River Bridge as work begins on the car park and access to the new Wangetti Trail Mowbray River pedestrian bridge.
The work is set to commence on Wednesday 28 April.
Road users should expect minor delays and plan their journeys accordingly advised the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
This $1 million project is in conjunction with the Wangetti Trail at the Mowbray River pedestrian bridge and viewing platform constructing dedicated turning lanes into the car park and upgrading the existing car park.
The works will include vegetation removal within the road corridor. This is required for the car park upgrade and road widening.
The current car park will be closed for the duration of the works. For safety reasons, due to proximity to the works, the section of the highway near the works, including Mowbray River Bridge, will be reduced to one lane for the duration of the project.
The changed traffic conditions will include temporary speed limit reductions, and single lane operation under coordination of traffic controllers and temporary traffic signals.
The current car park will be closed for the duration of the work.
Crews will be onsite between 6 am and 6 pm. Nearby residents and businesses may experience noise associated with the works, such as the sound of trucks, light machinery and vibrations.
Works are expected to be completed early June 2021 weather permitting.
