The new Steiner School opening in Mossman in 2021 is now taking enrolments.

Now that a Steiner school is greeting the Douglas Shire with its presence, many are more curious about this trialled and tested education.

Whilst they celebrated their 100-year anniversary last year and have over 1200 Steiner (also known as Waldorf) Schools spread across more than 65 countries, unless you have physically been inside a Steiner School whilst classes are taking place, it is very hard to imagine how the teaching and learning take place.

To provide this window into Steiner education and in particular our Shire’s very own Steiner option, the Tropical North Steiner School (TNSS) team have created a short five-minute video for families, providing further insight into some questions surrounding the fastest growing independent education system in the world.

TNSS is driven by the Australian Steiner Curriculum which is not only sophisticated in its creative approach to critical literacy and numeracy but children learn life skills such as growing their own vegetable gardens, cooking what they produce, measuring ingredients for baking, knitting and other very nourishing hands-on activities that develop their left and right brain hemispheres as well as their willingness and sense of purpose.

As do all Steiner Schools, TNSS strongly values environmental responsibility and sustainable practices and will proudly contribute to the Douglas Shire’s cultural and geographical uniqueness.

The school is preparing its Spring Fair/Open Day, which is a COVID-safe community event for all residents of the Douglas Shire on 31 October, 2020.

TNSS is located opposite the Mossman public swimming pool, between the C&K Kindergarten and the up and coming Mossman Botanic Gardens. They will be opening in 2021 with Prep to Class 3 and grow naturally each year to Class 6.
